Sunday (May 11) Pastoral Prayer

May 11, 2025 (Shepherd’s Sunday & Mother’s Day)
Beulah UMC & Oak Grove UMC

Savior, like a shepherd lead us to hear you speak to us and to know when it is your voice. Thank you for those persons in our lives who have helped us to listen to your voice and may we do the same for others. On this Shepherd’s Sunday and as our prayer hymn says, “lead us much we need thy tender care; in thy pleasant pastures feed us, for our use thy folds prepare.”

And on this Mother’s Day, we are also thankful for the people in our lives who have poured out your love and have blessed us in so many ways. Thank you for our mothers who have given us life and love.

We also pray for mothers who have lost a child through death, that their faith may give them hope.

We pray for women, though without children of their own, who like mothers have nurtured and cared for us.

We pray for mothers, who have been unable to be a source of strength, who have not responded to their children and have not sustained their families.

Loving God, as a mother gives life and nourishment to her children, so you watch over each and every one of us. As today’s Psalmist reminds us, “surely goodness and mercy shall follow me all of my life and we shall dwell in your house forever.”

We pray for your goodness and mercy to surround, bless, guide, heal, and comfort each person on our church’s prayer list as well as other loved ones and needs that are on our hearts and mind this day. May we each hear your shepherd voice as we join now in praying the words that Jesus taught us to say together…

Our Father, who art in heaven, hallowed be thy name. Thy kingdom come. Thy will be done on earth as it is in heaven. Give us this day our daily bread and forgive us our trespasses as we forgive those who trespass against us. And lead us not into temptation but deliver us from evil. For thine is the kingdom and the power and the glory forever. Amen.
