Sunday (May 18) Pastoral Prayer

Sunday, May 18, 2025
Beulah UMC & Oak Grove UMC

O Lord, thank you for the disciple, Peter who was willing to trust and obey by taking that one small step that would lead to outsiders like me to be included in your family.

Help each one of us to take whatever small step you may be calling us to take in extending your saving grace to others. Remind us that it is only by your gift of grace that we are here today thanks to someone else’s small step of faithfulness.

Even now, we take the small step of faith in praying for people who are on our hearts and minds and who are on our church’s prayer list. We pray for your healing, protecting, guiding, and comforting love to be with each of these persons in whatever they may be facing.

In our time of prayer this morning, we also confess that too often, we have allowed the barriers that divide us to keep us from taking the small steps that will extend your love and goodness to the people around us. Whenever we allow these barriers to keep us from stepping out in faith, remind us of the words of our hymn writer this morning, “When we walk with the Lord in the light of his word, what a glory he sheds on our way.”

Thank you for your grace and mercy which welcomes and invites outsiders like us to be part of your great big family. We now join together as your family in praying the prayer that Jesus taught us to say together…

Our Father, who art in heaven, hallowed be thy name. Thy kingdom come. Thy will be done on earth as it is in heaven. Give us this day our daily bread and forgive us our trespasses as we forgive those who trespass against us. And lead us not into temptation but deliver us from evil. For thine is the kingdom and the power and the glory forever. Amen.
