Let’s follow Elijah’s advice and spend a minute or two in silence. Like God said to one of the psalmists, “just be still and know that I am God.” [Silent Meditation]
O God, it’s so ironic that it’s often when we are silent that you speak to us the loudest.
It’s when we’re still that we notice how anxious we have been. It’s when we’re still that we become aware of the breath we are taking. It’s when we’re still that we are able to know that you are God.
Still our hearts when every fiber in our body wants to react impulsively to a situation we are facing. Still our hearts when we can tell that something is off, even if that means pulling off a road to hear you speak to us. Still our hearts and help us to center ourselves before we begin each day.
Still our hearts especially during this time of the escalating conflict in the Middle East and may we always pray for peace and justice in this world that you created and love so much.
Still the hearts of the people who are on our prayer list as well as others who are on our hearts and minds today and remind them that you are God. You are a God who meets us in our silence offering to us your presence, your healing, your guidance, your peace, your forgiveness, your unconditional love, and your amazing grace.
O God, of the wind, the earthquake, the fire, and the silence, speak the words that each one of us here today needs to hear and receive. And when we hear your voice, be with us as we go through our noisy day and our noisy week and grant us that peace which passes all understanding.
We pray this in the name of Jesus who would often go to you in quiet prayer and who now teaches us to say together…
Our Father, who art in heaven, hallowed be thy name. Thy kingdom come. Thy will be done on earth as it is in heaven. Give us this day our daily bread and forgive us our trespasses as we forgive those who trespass against us. And lead us not into temptation but deliver us from evil. For thine is the kingdom and the power and the glory forever. Amen.
