O God, our help in ages past, our hope for years to come, thank you for this hymn that reminds us of who you are and who you have called us to be, your faithful people.
Thank you for the opportunity that we have every Sunday morning in worship to remember all that you have done for us and all that you will continue to do for us. And whenever we do forget, send us prophets like Jeremiah to help refresh our memories.
For those who are on our church’s prayer list, be their help and hope. For those who are in need of healing, guidance, and the basic necessities of life, be their help and hope. For those who are discouraged, worried, anxious, and feeling empty, be their help and hope.
And lead us as your church to not only remember that you are the One who has brought us here today, but that you have also called us to share the same help and hope that we have received with others.
As we prepare to receive the Sacrament of Holy Communion this morning, refresh our memories of all that you have done for us by sending us Jesus who lived, who died, and who rose again.
It is in his saving name that we pray this prayer that he taught us to say together…
Our Father, who art in heaven, hallowed be thy name. Thy kingdom come. Thy will be done on earth as it is in heaven. Give us this day our daily bread and forgive us our trespasses as we forgive those who trespass against us. And lead us not into temptation but deliver us from evil. For thine is the kingdom and the power and the glory forever. Amen.
