"Walk On" - A Tribute to the Release of Aung San Suu Kyi

Myanmar activist Aung San Suu Kyi was released from house arrest on November 13th. The Nobel Peace Prize laureate has spent 15 of the past 21 years under house arrest because of her fight for democracy in the nation formerly known as Burma. In 1990 she won in a general election to become the Prime Minister, but the ruling military put her under house arrest. Her stand against injustice has also been a stand for freedom.

The rock group, U2 has been one of the leaders of a campaign over the past several years to raise awareness of her imprisonment. Their song, "Walk On" is dedicated to her brave witness in standing up for what is right at the cost of her own freedom. During their most recent world wide 360 tour, U2 invites people to wear an Aung San Suu Kyi mask and walk on the stage as the band plays their song, "Walk On" which was written a few years ago in recognition of her courage.

Below are some of the lyrics of the song:

You're packing a suitcase for a place none of us has been
A place that has to be believed to be seen
You could have flown away
A singing bird in an open cage
Who will only fly, only fly for freedom

Walk on, walk on
What you got they can't deny it
Can't sell it or buy it
Walk on, walk on
Stay safe tonight
