O God of the prophets, thank you for Isaiah’s message from heaven calling us to do all the good we can and to have our actions match the words we say during Sunday worship.
Before we speak, remind us that Jesus’ hands were kind hands. Before we we make a decision, remind us that Jesus’ hands were kind hands. And before we act on an impulse or react in a given situation, remind us that Jesus’ hands were kind hands. Lead us to become the complete Christians you call us to be where our our acts of piety and our acts of mercy reflect who you are, a loving, gracious, and merciful God.
Just as Jesus’ hands were kind hands doing good to all, lead us to do good to all. Even now, we seek to do good by praying for those who have troubled hearts, those who are in need of healing, those who are struggling to make ends meet, those who are in need of guidance, and those who are feeling alone. May your kind hands surround and bless each of these persons and needs that we lift up to you today.
And today, we are especially grateful to be part of your church family where we as a church can do good right here in our community and even beyond this community through the connectional ministries of the United Methodist Church. Thank you for the many ministries that are doing so much good throughout our denomination.
And as we will soon pledge in our prayer hymn, “let us watch you Jesus, till we’re gentle too, till our hands are kind hands, quick to work with you.” We pray this in the name of Jesus who taught us to pray together…
Our Father, who art in heaven, hallowed be thy name. Thy kingdom come. Thy will be done on earth as it is in heaven. Give us this day our daily bread and forgive us our trespasses as we forgive those who trespass against us. And lead us not into temptation but deliver us from evil. For thine is the kingdom and the power and the glory forever. Amen.
