Sunday (March 16/Lent) Pastoral Prayer

Sunday, March 16, 2025 (Lent)
Beulah UMC & Oak Grove UMC

God of Abraham and Sarah, thank you for your call to walk with you in the light of your Word. Sometimes that light seems brighter than at other times, but you always have a way of shining just enough light when we need it the most. These moments remind us that with you, all things are possible.

We think of how challenging is must have been for Jesus to be in the wilderness for 40 days but then we are told that your angels waited upon him. O God, send us reminders along our way, especially when we begin to doubt that your promises are true. Send your angels to those who are on our hearts and minds this day including those who are on our church’s prayer list. May your light shine brightly upon them.

In a time when people are so desperate for good news that they are willing to believe tabloid headlines to get our attention at the grocery checkout, remind us that we have something so much better to place our trust. We have your promises.

You promise us your peace when we are feeling so anxious. You promise us hope when we are feeling so much despair. You promise us abundant life when we are feeling so much exhaustion. You promise us comfort when we are feeling so much grief. You promise us forgiveness, when we are feeling so much shame.

God of Abraham and Sarah, thank you for being a God who is faithful in keeping your promises and for reminding us on this 2nd Sunday of Lent, that with you all things are possible. May this Season of Lent be an opportunity for us to trust you as we continue to face the challenges and uncertainties of life.

We pray this in the name of Jesus who showed us what it means to walk in the light of your Word and who taught us to pray together saying…

Our Father, who art in heaven, hallowed be thy name. Thy kingdom come. Thy will be done on earth as it is in heaven. Give us this day our daily bread and forgive us our trespasses as we forgive those who trespass against us. And lead us not into temptation but deliver us from evil. For thine is the kingdom and the power and the glory forever. Amen.
